Our power came back on about midnight last night. I think I could really get used to sleeping with the heat down to 56 degrees at night though. It was downright comfy under the comforter, which usually starts feeling a bit to hot during the usual 65 degrees we sleep in.
We got our final bill for all the electrical work we been having done. It isn't pretty, but actually not a bad as we were fearing. There were too many problems to mention, and he feels very strongly that we need to check all the connections in all the outlets as soon as possible. He had to get into one and it scared him. I do feel better now, and will feel even better when we finish that project.
No Thanksgiving day parade for us, which is just a little sad. I remember how exciting it was to see Santa in the parade - kinda the true kick-off to the holiday season.
I didn't go overboard, being just two of us, I roasted a turkey (approx. 10 lb.), mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables & dill dip, cranberry sauce & pumpkin pie.
The gravy came out especially good this year, as did everything really - the cranberry sauce was very good - I modified the recipe a little this year - dark brown sugar for light & honey for maple syrup. The pumpkin pie was quite different from my mom's, and may have been a slight bit too spicy for me, but all in all was good and Marc really liked it.
I was _really_ nice having our first Thanksgiving in our own home (!), and the kitchen is a huge improvement from last years coach house (you could probably put 4 of those kitchens floor space wise in this 1 kitchen, if not more). I really missed my family though, and look forward to Christmas - last year it was wonderful having my parents, sister & brother making the trip out last Thanksgiving(ish). Thanksgiving is my season marker - now I can start Christmas cards and listen to Christmas music to my hearts content.
I am so glad to hear Jimmy's coming home in early January - I can't wait to see him!
What am I thankful for? My family and spending time with them. My adorable, very happy kitties, and my sweet, thoughtful, appreciative husband, who I often think I couldn't love more, but do every day.
Oh yes, and I'm thankful that (so far), we've been able to fix the house problems. I keep my fingers crossed we don't run into anything that cannot be remedied.
