Week 11

Week 11 has started and I had my first OB appt. today. Marc went with me.

We both really like the Dr., he's very personable, and very easy to talk to. He was happy to answer all my questions (and any I have in the future), and I loved every answer we got. We have a choice when it comes to eye drop & vitamin K, he's supportive of my having a birth plan, fluids during labor, having a doula there, so on and so forth. I asked so many questions, I can barely remember them all.

We have/had a concern about a topical ointment I have been taken for the last 4 years (off and on). I've known about a couple that I could not take (Accutane, Retin-A), but didn't realize the Tazorac was a no-no as well. We (Marc, I & the Dr.) feel very positive based on:

Tazarotene, a topical medication for psoriasis and acne, is classified as pregnancy category X. If it is administered systemically, it is teratogenic. When administered topically, it probably is not. Tazarotene is not lipophilic, so it is not stored in fat and is rapidly eliminated. While tazarotenic acid achieves measurable levels in the systemic circulation, no drug-related hematological, ophthalmologic, or metabolic adverse events have been observed. Only a minimal amount of tazarotene is absorbed into the circulation. While animal studies have found tazarotene to be nonmutagenic and nonteratogenic, women of childbearing potential should be counseled regarding the potential risks of retinoid use during pregnancy.

No of course, not everything is fail-safe, especially in situations as these, but we are choosing to be positive.

We got to hear the heartbeat - that was a pretty incredible experience, and quite a relief - with my lack of morning sickness, I have often doubted if I was really pregnant at all ;)

So my main concerns right now are to get plenty of rest, exercise, and stick to a healthy diet. It was commented that my pelvis is small, so hopefully, I won't be expecting a giant ;) I do need to watch that I don't go crazy food-wise though, I need to start cutting up veggies every week to snack on, as I'm feeling pretty ravenous often:)

I have another appointment in 4 weeks.
