So I'm trying to make an effort to update more often than I had in the past. I don't think it will be easy, in fact, I fully expect in a week I'll be back to my old patterns. Each time I sit down to update, my mind sort of blanks and I can't think of anything to write about. Well, except for Liam. Aren't you getting bored of hearing about Liam? I think I'll start abbreviating his name after the first use in my posts. So L got some great puzzles for Christmas and we put them all away except for one. We decided we'd pull out more after he figured this first one out. That has happened and it's really cool. He's so proud of himself when he puts the pieces in.

This weekend I started dying rice for some future fun project. Last week I started trying ideas in my recently purchased "Fun Stuff to do w/ Toddlers" (not the actual title) book. One idea was a ziploc bag w/ some shaving cream, to which I added some food coloring. Seal it up and you have a cool bag to squish and mix the color around in. L was minimally impressed, in fact, I think Marc and I were more into it than he was. We'll try it again some other day. What has gone over well is a clothes basket full of stuffed animals. I empty them out on one side of the room and the basket goes on the other side. I then throw an animal in at a time. L joins in by walking over stuffed animals to place in the basket. Fun, and he's getting the idea of gathering toys up into one place, which will help with the "pick up toys" game.

I've been in a tough place with L and getting us through the day. I had an idea that my going about my daily duties with him cheerfully following along was the perfect way to go. It turns out I don't have enough daily duties, and L isn't really into those things. I've now decided I need to do those daily duties I do have, invent some more, and include some fun activities for L, even if they sound a little old for him, because face it, I really don't know if he's going to enjoy something until we try it. What we are doing now, or not doing, just isn't working. Another thing we tried this weekend was popping L into the highchair and giving him a piece of paper and crayon. It didn't keep him amused for long, but he did have some fun scribbling on the paper (which was a bit more than I even expected).

Last thing before I go to sleep. I try to make it a habit to always read when L comes to me with books. I love to read and I want him to as well. There is one book in particular that he has been bringing to us the last few weeks, I Like Cats. This books is already so fantastic, but after one too many readings, I discovered that this book is perfect for singing. It just never gets old. Never :)
