I haven't been doing very well with blog entries lately, with dial-up, I've been trying to spend less time on the internet to keep the phone line open.
I had a landscaper out last week to give me a quote on clearing the brush from the field - unfortunately, it's going to cost too much to do at this time. I think we'll try to save some money and do it all when we need to land cleared for the garage. I have cleared a little bit of the brush, hopefully enough for a small garden next year, and the I can work with the weed-whacker next spring to slowly widen what I've cleared.
I've finally picked out some colors for painting - for the bathrooms, kitchen (I think), and the living room. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as just painting. The bathrooms will be the biggest project - the wall above the shower has paint that is bubbling, and peeling. I think the builder used regular drywall (apparently, there is another, more appropriate type to use in bathrooms).
So. To do it right, I guess we need to either tile the shower "stall" or tear out the drywall and put better drywall in and more appropriate paint. Both of which will require rooming the tub/shower insert - which is a large solid piece. The molding also needs to be removed and replaced, as it is already getting moldy at the bottom of the tub. Another issue is the sink vanity is very close to the walls, and would have to be taken out to replace that molding, and to paint. So I guess I'll start with a different room (smiles weakly).
Cooking. I made Pork Vindaloo last week, and it was amazing. It's a pork stew with a lot of different spices. It's very warm, but not really spicy. One of the more interesting spices in their was whole mustard seed, which was really pleasant in texture for the dish.
Thanksgiving has come up way too fast. Even though it'll just be the two of us, I plan on cooking a turkey. (I love turkey leftovers). I'll really miss not having the Thanksgiving Day parade on in the background, but overall, it's better not to have the television.
Thanksgiving means Christmas, which I already feel late for. I'm thinking of trying different candies this year - we'll see how that goes. I was too late for soap making, which I'm unhappy about, as it's my best craft. I'm not really good enough at any others to give as gifts. Practice, practice, practice...
